Crispin Glover and Corey Feldman star in this, the fourth movie in the venerable FRIDAY THE 13TH series. Though some had written off the series by this installment, in retrospect this looks like it was the best of the series (leading to more sequels, despite the title). First, Glover injects some much needed personality into the film as Jimmy, one of the many doomed teenagers at Camp Crystal Lake, and he seems to somehow make the other teens a little more entertaining, including Feldman's Tommy, ostensibly the hero of the picture. Second, and perhaps most importantly, the gore effects here are done by the legendary Tom Savini (the original FRIDAY THE 13TH and DAWN OF THE DEAD), who adds a level of inventiveness to the endless killings that the series hadn't yet experienced. Plus...horror fans finally get to see what Jason looks like under that trademark hockey mask.

Radio Times

The plot is as negligible as ever, the sex-obsessed teenagers interchangeable and the grisly murders all twists on the old favourites in director Joseph (Rosemary's Killer) Zito's take on the Camp Crystal Lake blueprint. Special make-up genius Tom Savini gives the body count an extra dimension of charnel house nausea as machete-wielding Jason goes on the rampage again. Incredibly, Zito manages to create tension prior to each shock demise, and he also provides a truly nightmarish denouement. Crispin Glover of Back to the Future fame stars.

loz#6 from BRISTOL, 29th June, 2004

Despite some slicker direction (no doubt helped by not having to perform 3D tricks for the camera) this is a dissapointingly formulaic retread of the previous film (which was itself a clone of Part 2 - the last film with any originality). As with Part 3 the script is entirely lacking in new ideas, or anything approaching a plot. The story itself lacks focus, the narrative being mixed-up between following a family living on Crystal Lake; a man searching for Jason to avenge the seath of his sister; and yet another bunch of sex-obsessed teenagers who trun up to be bumped off one by one. The only consolations are a few decent death scenes, with fittingly enough Jasons own death (yes - he finally bites the bullet in this one) being the most spectacular in the series thus far. Unfortunately this ending is then undercut by an additional coda with the young boy who dispatches him - which instead of being unnerving is hilariously cheesy. Just about watchable if youve enjoyed the previous installments, but youll have to turn your brain off to find this anything other than predictable.

Barnstorming return to form!

A Customer from London, England, 19th August, 2004

Recently been watching the Friday the 13th films in order, but had never seen parts 4 or 5 before. I have to say how pleasantly surprised I was to find that this now ranks up there as one of the best, possibly even favorite (fingers crossed 6 holds up as well as I remember). The most impressive thing is how it's so focused on what makes Jason great. It rotates scenes of comedy, teenage sexuality and gore every few minutes so that it all forms into a gloriious whole with everything going on at once. Tom Savini returns as the special effects guy, and it's really top notch inventive stuff. Also a joy to have 2 hollywood icons in the cast with Corey Feldman and Crispin Glover. Looking forward to part 5!

Friday the 13th Part 4

AlbanianGirl from from , 16th August, 2008

It's watchable, but completely lacks the thrill and chill feeling that you get with the first and second ones - which is normal this far into a series. Disappointed as Camp Crystal Lake didn't really seem to feature as prominently as before, and very strange ending. Didn't mind making a cup of tea in the middle of it. Sent it back straight away..

Best of the sequels

A Customer from Harrogate, 29th July, 2008

It's not a particularly great compliment to say that this is the best of the sequels but, thanks to atmospheric direction from Joseph Zito, it is. He made the excellent 'Rosemary's Killer' and he brings real edge to the stalking sequences and really pumps up the tension in the exciting climax. Tom Savini returns to provide his usual superb effects, showcased to jaw-dropping effect in the final confrontation.

Extremely FUNNY!

James from Brighton, 1st February, 2007

This is the most hilaraious films I have seen for awhile. I kow the genre is suppose to be horror but the content and the way its dated is just so funny with the way the script is written from society then to how society is now. Back in the eighties this was really modern n casry im sure, I just found this to be so funny! Hence why I gave it 3 stars.
