It is what it is

RJNeb2 from , 17th November, 2006

Surely the last person you'd expect to direct an adaptation of a comic strip would be Altman, yet curiously, he's pretty adept at capturing the oddball community in the ramshackle town of Sweethaven, miraculously rendered by production designer Wolf Kroeger. Almost universally derided upon release, there's actually something rather charming about the film. Sure, it's messy, vaguely incoherent and sorely lacking in a plot. But it's beautifully made, supremely well cast and never less than interesting. And it's done wonders for the Maltese tourist industry.

popeye

A Customer from Wirral, 23rd October, 2008

The flop of flops! I only got this as my husband & I were going on holiday to Malta & 'Popeye' was filmed. Malta is beautiful & I recommend it as a holiday place if you like sightseeing but don't watch this film unless you need help getting to sleep!!!!

I remebered seeing this when i was younger, but i never realised it was Robbin! I mean now there is an actor who can lend his talents to almost anything!

Pretty Cool

Sonic Boy from Newcastle upon Tyne, 20th October, 2006

Considering this movie was made in 1980, It is nicely done, Robin Williams is the best candidate for Popeye's role (specially that they tried to keep the same audio texture from the original cartoon).I was expecting more tricks from Popeye in the movie but I suppose for a movie that age with no digital special effects, it was pretty cool. If you are not into Popeye then skip this one and let the kids watch it, but if you are a fan or even remember it from your childhood then give it a go.
