His wife Laura (Lin Shaye) tries to jolly him along and placate their teenage son Richard, and their daughter Marion (Alexandra Holden) who is bringing along her boyfriend Brad. Frank decides to take a short-cut through some deserted woods, but the road seems to go on for ever. Suddenly a woman appears in the road and Frank stops the car to help. It's not help that she's after...

Halliwell's Film Guide

Low budget horror that makes the most of its limitations; it delivers the requisite shocks with a black, comic touch.

You Have to watch this--READ ON

Andrew B from Birmingham, 15th June, 2004

I loved this film.
It's not tacky and yes the dialogue is hilarious and the whole film is shot tastfully.
I jumped 3x and I love horror and with films like 'Cabin fever' & 'Wrong turn' this is So much better and has exceeded my expectations.
I must admit I was halfway through watching this thinking'what is this' I was also scared it was going to be one of those stupid endings but you will be nicely suprised as it all fits together and ties everything together.
Well worth a watch its fun and not too gory but in parts is really scary and spooky.Trust me what have you got to LOSE!

Excellent Little Thriller

K Chawgo from London, England, 29th June, 2004

This independent film shows spark with its excellent dialogue. If you have ever been a family going away together on a drive, you will be able to connect with this film. The plot is original and does give a nod to the Outer Limits and Twilight Zone television shows. There are some scary set pieces and the climax is well excuted and not a cop out. Highly recommended.

Thoroughly enjoyed this

skeadugenga from , 4th October, 2004

If you're into gore fests this one is not for you. An intelligent horror which lets what you don't see terrorise you more than what you do. Some funny dialogue, good acting and while it did go on a little too long, on the whole a good movie, well worth the cost of renting it. Recommended

Some Wonderful Moments

mxcl from from London, 29th June, 2008

A great atmosphere. You really feel their plight - trapped in their car and the endless night, gradually running out of fuel. And there's something out there that wants to get them. A little gory, a little weak in places. But littered with great moments, and sections of genuine horror. Finishing with a very good ending. Worth watching for the orgasm scene alone. Not a good scene, but shockingly bad taste and the one thing that you'll never forget about this film.

If you are an average film buff that enjoys a few thrills, reasonable story and a bit of tension then Dead End delivers - just. It's clear from the outset this is a low budget movie and it shows in the acting and the plot attention to detail. The fim revolves around a family on a journey through a derted woodlands at night that never seems to end. They come across a stranded woman with a baby, that kicks off a series of ghostly and strange events leading to the family members being killed. This is where the film immediately falls down as the events just seem ridiculous and the reaction to the family memeber when they find the mutitliated body of a brother/son, is well.... a joke. the acting of grief is poor and unrealsitic including 5 minutes later acting quite normally - you get the drift.

The stroy has a groanful ending - "oH was that it?" so you know what to expect. all in all it does keep you hooked through intrigue, but it it not a blockbuster horror/thriller and will easily be forgotten about. worth watching but don't expect too much.

This isn't what you might expect and I would say this is more a thriller than a horror. Not knowing much about the film, I thought it would be a slasher road movie but in many ways it's better than that as it is quite original. It really does have a creepy, spooky atmosphere to it and a sense of dread of what will happen next. So it does keep you on the edge of your seat. Providing on your movie education you will either sense the coming twist at the end or be totally gobsmacked by it. Overall a very good, fairly original film that you should deffinitely watch.

There are not many extras on the disc, 2 deleted scenes which the director over explains. There is also a making of about 30mins long.

Nothing new here. Barely adequate cast, ordinary film making, a little suspense, the odd good line, a lack of blood. Cliched, corny, and unoriginal. Obviously made on a budget of 10 euros by people with no imagination and seemingly no appreciation of what has gone before in the horror genre, otherwise why make this film which is nothing more than a mediocre rehash of horror stereotypes. As for the rave reviews some have given it, I despair. This film would probably appeal to the 12-15 age group or those who think horror is one of Stephen King's soap operas.
